About

Mantle was founded in 2022 under the name Ten Key Labs by Amar Varma and a group of former co-workers from Xtreme Labs, the Toronto mobile software company he sold to Pivotal, and Autonomic, the connected-vehicle platform Ford bought in 2018. The company announced $10.5M USD in seed funding in October 2023 and launched Mantle, an equity management platform that uses AI to pull structured cap table data out of uploaded legal documents — SAFEs, option grants, share issuances — work co-founder Amit Jethani says otherwise takes hours of manual entry and back-and-forth with lawyers. Mantle competes with Carta, Morgan Stanley's Shareworks and AngelList. It has since added Mantle Portal for LPs such as endowments, family offices and funds-of-funds, and in July 2025 launched Mantle Starter, a free tier for early-stage founders. The company has expanded into the United States and doubled its team since the seed round; Varma told the TechTO stage in October 2025 that the US, not Canada, is the cap table product's biggest market.

Quick answers

What does Mantle do?

Mantle handles equity management — cap tables, 409A valuations, option grants and equity planning — for startup founders, the law firms they work with, and limited partners. Its AI reads uploaded legal documents such as SAFEs and share issuances and builds structured cap table data from them, work that otherwise means hours of manual entry and back-and-forth with legal counsel.

Who founded Mantle, and when?

Amar Varma founded it in 2022 as Ten Key Labs, with Amit Jethani and a group of former co-workers from Xtreme Labs and Autonomic — two companies Varma had previously co-founded and sold. The company took the Mantle name from the product it launched in October 2023.

How does Mantle compare to Carta?

Carta is the incumbent Mantle is built against, along with Morgan Stanley's Shareworks and AngelList. Mantle's pitch is AI document processing instead of manual data entry, and unlimited stakeholders on both its free and paid plans — as opposed to pricing that climbs as a cap table grows.
