Medcan sells prevention rather than treatment. Its Annual Health Assessment — the foundation of the business since Dr. Robert Francis founded the clinic in 1987 — is a day of testing and consultation that produces a picture of current health and the risks ahead, so action can start before symptoms do. Around it sit lifestyle, nutrition, fitness and specialist services, delivered on-site, at client workplaces and by video.
Shaun Francis has been closely involved in running Medcan since 1994 and became CEO in 2003. The clinic today reports more than 1,200 corporate partners and 50,000 clients.
Allison Janson Hazell is Director of Clinical Innovation. A certified genetic counsellor and past president of the Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors, she built Canada's first proactive whole-genome-sequencing clinical program at Medcan, and presented that work on the TechTO stage in April 2019.
