About
Kathrine Myhre established the cluster in 2009 as Oslo Medtech and has led it as chief executive since. It is organised as a not-for-profit membership organisation, and its work is innovation, company creation and helping Norwegian health companies scale internationally. Innovation Norway's cluster programme awarded it Norwegian Centre of Expertise status in 2015, and the European cluster body gave it Gold Label status in 2016. In October 2016 the cluster established Aleap, a health incubator for startups, and by 2017 it had added an investment network and an Angel Challenge Health programme run with Startup Norway. The name changed in September 2017 for two reasons Myhre gave at the time: the members' expertise had spread well past medical technology into diagnostics, digital health, e-health, biotech, pharma and computational and human life sciences; and municipalities and regional actors outside the capital had told the cluster that the word "Oslo" made it hard for them to engage, when members like ConceptoMed in Lofoten were scaling internationally from far outside it. Myhre presented at TechTO's HealthTO in November 2016, then still under the Oslo Medtech name, on Norwegian health technology going global and on what Canadian and Norwegian health R&D could do together. She won a HIMSS Future 50 European Achievement Award in 2019.
