About
Specialty medications carry a paperwork problem that has little to do with medicine: before a patient can start therapy, coverage has to be confirmed and a prior authorisation completed, and that process runs across a prescriber's office, a pharmacy, a manufacturer's patient-support program and an insurer, mostly on forms. OkRx builds centralised cloud software for that chain. Its stated products are a patient-support workflow built around the complexity of those programs, digital forms and enrolments, patient engagement, and actionable data insights, and it names patients, healthcare providers, pharmacists, program providers, manufacturers and payers as the six groups it serves. Its own running counter puts the volume it has handled at more than 260,000 prior authorisations. John Leombruno is chief executive. He is a pharmacist with an MBA from Queen's and a PhD in pharmacoepidemiology from the University of Toronto, and co-founded Patient Direct and GMD Distribution — both patient-support and specialty-pharmacy businesses acquired by McKesson Canada — before this.
