About

OnDeck lends to small businesses entirely online, scoring risk from aggregated business data rather than from a personal credit file alone. Mitch Jacobs founded it in New York in 2006; it went public on the NYSE in December 2014 under ONDK. Its Canadian business took a distinctly Canadian shape: in April 2019 OnDeck combined OnDeck Canada with Evolocity Financial Group, a Montréal online small business lender that had financed more than C$240M since 2010, keeping a majority stake and the OnDeck Canada name. After a heavy pandemic quarter the company was sold to Enova International, which completed the acquisition in October 2020 at US$1.89 per share. Gary Fearnall ran the Canadian business and spoke at FintechTO in February 2017.

Backers

Publicly listed on the NYSE from December 2014 until Enova International acquired the company in October 2020; it has operated as an Enova business since.
