About
The pitch is a direct shot at the app stores. Parallelz takes a native mobile app as built and makes it playable or usable straight from a link — "No installs. No app stores. No compromises" — so a developer can distribute and a user can try without a download, a store listing or a 30 percent cut. The company describes it as "a new computing architecture and platform that enables entirely new ways of distributing and discovering mobile apps." Albert Lai founded it in 2021, spinning it out of Big Viking Games, the instant-games company he co-founded in 2011; his earlier startups include Kontagent, BubbleShare, which Kaboose bought, IdleAgent, BuyBuddy and MyDesktop Networks. Julia Pelletier, previously at Oculus, is co-founder. In June 2022 the company announced US$3 million in pre-seed funding, covered by BetaKit and TechCrunch, from Global Founders Capital, Play Ventures, Garage Capital and Two Small Fish Ventures alongside angels including Ed Baker, Ryan Hoover, Andre Charoo, Jonathan Lai, Jude Gomila, Kyu Lee and Farhan Thawar. Lai spoke at TechTO in September 2017, for Big Viking Games.
