About
Paramount Commerce built a pay-by-bank business two decades before the category had that name. Its first product, INSTADEBIT, let Canadians pay online directly from a chequing account without a card or an e-wallet, and the company says it was clearing more than $50 million a month within its first year and had crossed a billion dollars in cumulative transactions by 2006. The modern business wraps Interac e-Transfer and EFT into a single real-time payments API for merchants that need bank-rail settlement — high-value, high-risk-scrutiny sectors such as regulated iGaming, financial services and marketplaces, where card acceptance is expensive or restricted. The company states it has processed over $100 billion in volume across more than twenty years. Sam Kawtharani is its VP of product.
Backers
No venture rounds are reported; the company has operated privately since 2003 and does not publish investors.
