About

Philer started as software for lawyers and became the service itself. Founder Ankita Sharma told TechTO in October 2026 that she launched it with a digital client-intake tool and signed 46 real estate law firms in 18 months, only to find the firms' clerks did not want to use it and transactions per customer stayed tiny.

The pivot came in 2024. Philer announced that September that the Law Society of Ontario had approved it, under the regulator's Access to Innovation programme, to offer real estate legal services directly to consumers; its site says Philer Inc. is also an authorised participant in the Law Society of Alberta's Innovation Sandbox, and legal advice is delivered by Philer Law, a separate entity run by licensed lawyers. Rather than market to homebuyers directly, Philer first closed more than 250 transactions through one tech-enabled brokerage, then, by Sharma's account, widened to more than 260 real estate agent and mortgage broker partners and brought its lawyers in-house.

The company expanded to Alberta in April 2025. It is a client of Hamilton's Innovation Factory and a startup in Toronto Metropolitan University's Legal Innovation Zone.
