About

Pioneer Fund is a venture fund that invests only within the Y Combinator ecosystem, combining the capital and the operating experience of over 225 YC alumni into a single vehicle. Founder and managing general partner Jason Gray went through Y Combinator in 2015 as co-founder of SunFarmer, a solar energy company; before that he held roles in finance, energy and agriculture, including general manager and vice-president of SunEdison, where he established the company's Canadian division and grew it to $250 million in annual revenue while managing over $500 million in debt and equity. Axios reported the fund raising $20 million to back YC startups in March 2018. The fund is not formally affiliated with Y Combinator itself. Gray appeared on a TechTO panel during Toronto Tech Week in June 2026, moderated by N49P's Alex Norman, on what US investors look for in Canadian founders.
