About
Pool Global Partners was co-founded by Sally Daub and Hugh Chow and closed its first fund in January 2017, describing itself as an outcome-driven, emerging manager that connects global growth capital with deep technology. It backs early-stage hard-tech companies in areas including quantum computing, AI and deep learning, and healthcare, and is headquartered in Toronto with operations in San Francisco, Beijing and Vancouver.
Daub built the firm's thesis on her own operating experience. On the TechTO stage in 2019 she said her semiconductor company, ViXS Systems, nearly failed when a 2011 tsunami wiped out most of its revenue, and that being under-capitalized left it no room to absorb the shock — which is why, as an investor, she now looks for companies capitalized well enough to survive a catastrophic event.
Backers
Pool Global Partners is a venture firm rather than a venture-backed company; its capital comes from its limited partners. At its first-fund close in January 2017 it named backers including Top Capital Investment Management, a Chinese investment firm, and Lee Lau, a founder of ATI Technologies. A full, current LP list was not found.
