Preview Careers set out to close the gap between a degree and a job: career services aimed at students who had finished a programme without a clear route into work, and interview simulations that put them in front of real hiring managers to practise. Jennifer Chan co-founded it in Vancouver and told the TechVancouver stage in January 2019 that she had built it out of her own transcript — nearly 140 credits across eighteen subjects and no obvious career at the end of it. The company was built customer-first: Chan surveyed students on campus, put a sign-up page on Wix, and ran more than 140 customer discovery interviews with a team of three before building features. She spoke about what a generalist brings to founding a company, and where breadth stops being enough.
