About
Som Seif founded Claymore Investments and sold it to BlackRock in 2012, then started Purpose Investments to build, in the company's words, "a firm for thoughtful Canadians" around a more modern approach to asset management. Purpose passed $1 billion in assets in 2015, $12 billion in 2020 and $17 billion in 2021, helped by an early and unusually large Bitcoin ETF. The business rebranded as Purpose Unlimited in 2022, with Purpose Investments as one arm among several: Advisor Solutions by Purpose, Foundation Wealth Partners, Harness Investment Management, Driven (formerly Thinking Capital) in small-business lending, Ether Capital in digital assets, and a longevity retirement platform. In 2025 it acquired Vancouver's Steadyhand, adding roughly $1.3 billion and taking group assets past $30 billion. Seif presented at TechTO in October 2018 as Purpose Investments.
Backers
Privately held and founder-led. The company's own history describes growth through acquisition — Thinking Capital, Ether Capital, Harness, Steadyhand — rather than venture rounds; no outside financing is disclosed on its site.
