About
Remitian automates the step that comes after filing. Larry Hasson, a chartered professional accountant and a partner at an Ottawa tax firm, co-founded it — as TaxPay — after living the problem in his own practice: returns get prepared correctly and then payments get missed, instalments get recalculated, and penalties follow. The product is payment infrastructure rather than tax software. It plugs into accounting firms, into businesses that owe tax in many places at once, and increasingly into financial institutions, replacing a process still run on cheques, couriers and mail. Cross-border payments are a specific case it handles — Hasson's example on the TechTO stage was American athletes paying tax back into Canada and vice versa. Remitian announced a seed round from that stage at the Canadian Rocketships finale on 1 December 2025, and its own March 2026 release put the round at US$7 million, with backers including Ryan Lazanis, Aprio chief executive Richard Kopelman, KOHO chief executive Daniel Eberhard and Cambrian founding partner Rex Salisbury. It is now headquartered in Miami, with early adopters including the US firm Aprio and the Canadian firm MNP.

Quick answers
What does Remitian do?
It moves tax payments. Accounting firms, businesses and financial institutions connect by API, and Remitian collects, pays and reconciles the taxes owed across jurisdictions instead of the cheques and couriers the process still runs on.
Was Remitian called something else?
Yes — it launched as TaxPay and changed its name. Co-founder Larry Hasson explained the reasoning on the TechTO stage: paying taxes on time is a good thing, but the old name described only the tax half.
Where is Remitian based?
It is headquartered in Miami. Its co-founder Larry Hasson practises as a tax accountant in Ottawa, where the company started.
