About

Scale Venture Partners started life inside a bank. Founded in 2000 as BA Venture Partners, it was Bank of America's venture capital arm and raised its first two funds there; in 2007 it separated from the bank and took the Scale Venture Partners name. It has been in Foster City, California since.

The firm invests in AI and B2B software at the early growth stage, and is explicit about how: "Eighty percent of our investments are lead checks at Series A and B." Its stated posture toward founders is deliberately hands-off — "sometimes the best support is the freedom to build" — and it measures relationships "in years, not rounds." It is investing out of a $900 million Fund VIII; Wikipedia records US$1.9 billion in total assets under management and 159 investments that have reached an exit, including IPOs for Bill.com, Box, DocuSign, HubSpot, RingCentral, Root Insurance and WalkMe.

M.G. Thibaut is a CFO Executive in Residence at the firm, working with portfolio companies on their finance functions. She was CFO at DroneDeploy and, before that, at Copper — and it was as DroneDeploy's CFO that she joined TechTO Together in August 2020.

Backers

A venture firm rather than a venture-backed company. It raised its first two funds as Bank of America's venture arm before spinning out in 2007; its limited partners are not disclosed.
