About

Shred Capital launched in Vancouver in November 2020, positioned at the time as backing post-pandemic disruptors. Its structure is unusual for a venture firm: rather than a single fund, it runs three lines it calls the three Cs. Credit is multi-tiered financing — financing strategy, fast diligence and capital deployment — leaning heavily on non-dilutive sources, including SR&ED and IDMTC tax-credit claims and proposals to the Canada Media Fund and IRAP. Consulting covers strategy, commercialisation and growth operations. Capacity is the part aimed not at companies but at governments, agencies and universities: ecosystem strategy, program design, and policy and incentive work. It also runs a venture studio program, Scaffold, and Game Invest West, a games-industry investment conference held at the Banff Venture Forum. Matt Toner, previously CEO of the smart-playground company Biba Ventures, co-founded it and is its managing partner. The firm lists presence across Western and Eastern Canada, New York and Silicon Valley.
