About
Slack built its Toronto presence during its hyper-growth period, and two TechTO appearances come from that window. In January 2018 a SalesTO panel opened with the question of why Slack chose Toronto for a sales team, with the company's sales leadership on stage crediting the depth of the local sales community. That August, Nikki Curtis — then leading learning and enablement at Slack — gave a talk on creating a culture of learning inside a fast-scaling organisation. Slack listed directly on the New York Stock Exchange in June 2019 and was acquired by Salesforce on 21 July 2021 for US$27.7 billion, the largest acquisition in Salesforce's history at the time. It continues to operate as a Salesforce product.
Backers
Venture-backed through the 2010s, then publicly traded from its June 2019 direct listing until the Salesforce acquisition closed in 2021. It is now wholly owned by Salesforce.
