About

Turner and Steele built the course around mental-health outcomes rather than aesthetics. Turner, a kinesiologist and a member of the LGBTQ+ community, went through the research on exercise and mental health and pulled out the parameters that show the strongest effect; Steele, a physiotherapist, brought post-operative management, including work with clients after bilateral mastectomy. The result is a module a person buys and works through, with exercise prescription sent to their phone or desktop, tailored to whether they are transitioning male to female or female to male, or are non-binary, and to their own physical goals. It also gives fitness and health-care professionals an outline for working properly with transgender patients, and includes a forum so participants are not doing it alone. The Welland Tribune covered it in April 2017 ahead of a June launch; the course runs on Embodia, an online exercise app. The two presented it at TechTO's HealthTO edition in May 2017.
