About

Triton Ventures describes itself as "a venture capital firm investing in spinout and startup technology companies whose products give them a defensible position in large and growing markets" — the language of a fund built to commercialise research, which is what its founder had spent her career doing.

Laura Kilcrease founded it in Austin in 1999. She had earlier founded the Austin Technology Incubator, and after Triton she ran Alberta Innovates as CEO from 2017 to 2024, the province's innovation funder, where she created the Inventures conference. She told the TechTO podcast in 2024 that a conference's value is measured in the deals struck between people who met there.

This page makes no claim about whether Triton is still investing. Its site is still reachable but frozen: the newest item on the front page is dated May 2007, the copyright line reads 2004, and its TLS certificate has expired, all checked on 3 September 2026. That is evidence the site stopped being maintained, and nothing more than that.

Backers

A venture firm rather than a venture-backed company; its limited partners are not disclosed, and no fund size was found to a source.

Quick answers

What is Triton Ventures?

An Austin venture capital firm founded in 1999 by Laura Kilcrease, investing in spinout and early-stage technology companies — research commercialisation, largely at Series A.

Is Triton Ventures still investing?

Not established here. Its website is still reachable but has not been updated since 2007 and its certificate has expired, and its founder ran Alberta Innovates from 2017 to 2024. A dormant website is not a closure, so this page makes no status claim.

Did Triton Ventures take the TechTO stage?

No. Laura Kilcrease appeared on TechTO's Founders & Funding podcast in 2024 as CEO of Alberta Innovates, not for Triton.
