Unblocked

Unblocked is a Vancouver developer-tools company that answers questions about a team's own codebase, pulling context out of code, documents, conversations and tickets so an engineer learns why something was built, not just what. Dennis Pilarinos, who previously sold Buddybuild to Apple, founded it in 2023.

About

Unblocked indexes the material around a codebase — repositories, documents, Slack conversations, project-management tickets — and answers questions about it, so a developer facing unfamiliar or AI-generated code can find the intent and history behind it. It works through a web app, a Slack bot and integrations with the tools teams already use, and by mid-2026 the company reported that agent-driven use of the platform had passed human use. Dennis Pilarinos founded the company in Vancouver in 2023 and leads it as CEO; it came out of stealth that October. In May 2025 it raised a US$20-million Series A (C$27.5 million) led by B Capital, with Radical Ventures and Artisanal Ventures participating. Pilarinos previously founded Buddybuild, the Vancouver mobile build service Apple acquired in 2018, and roughly half of Unblocked's engineering team came with him from Buddybuild and Apple.

Backers

Series A led by B Capital, with Radical Ventures and Artisanal Ventures participating, plus angel investors including Clio chief executive Jack Newton.
