About
Dalia Asterbadi worked on neural networks and neuro-fuzzy systems in 2006, moved into marketing automation, then went back to machine learning when the data problems outgrew her tools. Verve.ai came out of merging her earlier venture realSociable with ARCompany, and sold a customer-data approach to personalised messaging. Her TechTO talk in November 2017 argued against treating AI as something that can be dropped into a business — she described putting customers through a crawl-walk-run to get 'AI ready' — and against the vocabulary of disruption, in favour of building sustainable, profitable companies. JONES Media acquired the company that same autumn.

Quick answers
What was Verve.ai?
A Toronto machine-learning company that used customer data to personalise sales and marketing messaging. It was formed by merging ARCompany and realSociable.
What happened to it?
JONES Media acquired it in October 2017. Asterbadi stayed on as CTO and resident data scientist at JONES Media.
What was her argument on the TechTO stage?
That AI is not something you buy in a box — companies have to be made ready for it — and that founders should chase sustainable, profitable businesses rather than the language of disruption.
