Toyota Research Institute — Advanced Development announced Woven Capital in September 2020 as an $800 million global fund to invest at growth stage in the technologies Toyota's transformation into a mobility company depends on: automation, AI, energy, sustainability and the digital infrastructure underneath them. The fund writes Series B and later cheques, with a stated target of 20 to 25 companies. In September 2025 Toyota launched a strategic investment subsidiary and a second $800 million fund, taking Woven Capital to $1.6 billion under management; it became a wholly owned Toyota subsidiary in July 2025.
