The technology is the same insight applied one step further out. At Studio 1 Labs, which Shim co-founded in 2015, the fabric sensor was a bedsheet that read a patient's breathing and heart rate with nothing attached to the body, no wires and no camera. Brighter Signals takes tactile sensing in fabric and points it at machines: its own description is that it has pioneered a new way for objects and machines to sense and measure touch, with automotive, healthcare and robotics named as its target industries and a technology white paper published for each. The company is registered in the Netherlands as Brighter Signals B.V. and operates from Prins Hendriklaan in Amsterdam.
