About
Longan Vision designs enhanced vision and communication hardware for people working where they cannot see. Its main product, the Fusion Vision System, clips to a firefighter's helmet and projects thermal imaging into the wearer's field of view, so the imager is on the head rather than in a hand. The company was founded in 2018 out of research at McMaster University with support from Innovation Solutions Canada, and works from a head office at McMaster Innovation Park in Hamilton with a regional office in Oshawa. It describes the system as a modular platform, so a fire service can pick a configuration now and add capability later, and sells beyond fire services into industrial safety, utilities, energy and infrastructure. In June 2022 it joined the University of Arizona Center for Innovation's Global Advantage Soft Landings programme and opened a US office at the UA Tech Park in Tucson. The company reached TechTO in July 2023, when Andrew Leaman appeared alongside Bill Edwards of Swiss Business Hub Canada in a conversation about why a Canadian startup might put its European headquarters in Switzerland.
