About
DocSend replaced the emailed attachment with a controlled link, which meant the sender could revoke access, update the file after sending and — the part fundraisers cared about — see exactly which pages an investor lingered on. That made it standard equipment for startup fundraising, and DocSend's own data on how investors read decks became widely cited. Dropbox acquired the company in March 2021 for $165M, and Heddleston stayed to lead it inside Dropbox before founding Distill.
Backers
Venture-backed; acquired by Dropbox in 2021.
Quick answers
What does DocSend do?
It shares documents as controlled links rather than attachments, and reports who opened them, for how long, and on which pages.
Why do founders use it?
Fundraising. Sending a deck as a DocSend link shows which investors actually read it and where they stopped.
Who owns it?
Dropbox, which acquired DocSend in March 2021 for $165M.
