About
Financeit is the second act of CommunityLend, the 2007 attempt to bring peer-to-peer lending to Canada that regulation made unworkable. The pivot was to lend at the point of sale instead: a $10M pilot from ING, two months of work bolting a merchant onto the old P2P platform, and financeit.io launched in February 2011. It focused on one vertical — home improvement — and, as co-founder Paul Sehr told FintechTO, that focus is when growth actually started. Goldman Sachs led its Series B in late 2015 and later took a controlling stake. Financeit acquired TD's home improvement financing assets in 2016, Centah in 2017, and rival Simply Group in 2023. Casper Wong became CEO in January 2024; Michael Garrity is Executive Chair.

Quick answers
What does Financeit do?
Point-of-sale financing: it partners with contractors, retailers and big-box stores so their customers can break a big purchase — a renovation, a furnace, a vehicle — into monthly payments. Home improvement is its primary vertical, and it lends to prime borrowers.
Who founded Financeit?
Michael Garrity, Casper Wong and Paul Sehr, in 2011. Garrity had founded the predecessor, CommunityLend, in 2007; Sehr was contracting on the side and came on full time as technical co-founder for the pivot. Wong has been CEO since January 2024.
What is the Home Depot project loan?
A card Financeit built for Home Depot Canada: a revolving line of credit for six months that then converts into an installment loan, for renovations up to $50,000. It launched in Ontario in October 2018 and went nationwide that November, after an eight-month build and a two-year wait for the RFP.
How is Financeit connected to TechTO?
Three appearances. Co-founder Casper Wong — then COO, now CEO — gave 'Lessons Learned The Hard Way' in December 2015. Co-founder and CTO Paul Sehr then presented twice at FintechTO: the origin story in August 2016, and how they won the Home Depot card in May 2019.
