About
Fiserv sells the core banking, card issuing and merchant payment systems that banks, credit unions and merchants run on. It was formed in 1984 and moved its global headquarters from Brookfield to downtown Milwaukee in 2024. Its scale changed in 2019 with the roughly US$22B all-stock acquisition of First Data; full-year 2025 revenue was US$21.19B, up 4%. David McIninch, then VP of strategy and marketing, appeared at a TechTO special event on positioning hosted with April Dunford in June 2019 and described the pressure behind the company's repositioning bluntly: the number of US banks and credit unions had fallen from about 22,000 before the dot-com crash to about 18,000 before the financial crisis and about 11,000 by the time he spoke.
