About

Foodee's target was the gap between what office catering usually is and what local restaurants could serve if someone else ran the ordering, delivery and account management. Restaurants get demand in their off-peak hours; offices get food that is not institutional. Ryan Spong, a former investment banker and a partner in the Tacofino restaurant group, was first approached as a restaurant partner and joined the company instead, becoming CEO in 2014. It raised a US$6 million Series A in February 2016 and grew to thousands of corporate customers and hundreds of restaurant partners across Vancouver, Toronto, Austin, Denver and Philadelphia. Sodexo acquired it in July 2021; Foodee kept its brand, staff and Vancouver office as a wholly-owned subsidiary.

Backers

Backed pre-acquisition by the BC Tech Fund (Kensington Capital Partners) among others; acquired by Sodexo in 2021.

Quick answers

What does Foodee do?

Is Foodee still operating?

Yes, as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sodexo since July 2021, retaining its brand, staff and Vancouver office.

Who led it?

Ryan Spong became CEO in 2014, after Foodee approached him as a restaurant partner through Tacofino. He now leads retail food strategy and partnerships for Sodexo USA.
