About
Fortay started in 2015 when its co-founders asked why companies had no reliable way to assess culture fit when hiring. It sells three products — Culture Add Hiring, People Experience and Inclusive Leadership — and built its early customer base bootstrapped, with zero marketing spend; early customers included Top Hat, StackAdapt, Ritual, Statflo, Auvenir and Mercatus Technologies. Co-founder Bohdan Zabawskyj took the TechTO stage in August 2017 to argue that culture is the manifestation of a company's values, not its perks. The platform has since moved toward diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging as its core focus.
Backers
Bootstrapped in its early years, per co-founder Marlina Kinnersley in a 2017 MaRS interview. No funding rounds confirmed — assumption.
Quick answers
What does Fortay do?
It assesses whether a candidate's values align with a team's before they're hired, then tracks employee experience after. Three products: Culture Add Hiring, People Experience and Inclusive Leadership.
Who founded Fortay?
Marlina Kinnersley, Bohdan Zabawskyj and Nathan Wong, in 2015. Kinnersley is CEO; Zabawskyj spoke for Fortay at TechTO in 2017.
What is culture add hiring?
Fortay's argument is that hiring for culture 'fit' clones the existing team. It assesses values alignment instead, so a hire adds to the culture rather than duplicating it — a shift the company ties to its diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging focus.
