About
Future Primitive's contribution is a standard rather than an app. ERC-6551, created on 23 February 2023, assigns an Ethereum account to every non-fungible token — so an NFT can itself hold assets, sign transactions and act as an identity, without changing any existing contract. The studio's implementation and playground for it is Tokenbound, which its own footer calls "a work in play (WIP) by Future Primitive", and whose pitch is that token-bound accounts bring NFTs to life: they can own things, take on-chain actions and carry identity across chains. Game inventories are the most-cited use — a character's items live in the character's own wallet — and the standard was picked up widely enough to draw explainers from Coinbase and thirdweb. Benny Giang, who was on the founding team at Dapper Labs and helped launch CryptoKitties before leading its expansion across Asia, is a named author of the standard at a futureprimitive.xyz address, alongside Steve Jang, Alanah Lam and Jayden Windle. The studio's consumer-facing product is Checkpoint, a photo booth.
Backers
No funding round has been announced publicly and the studio names no investors on its own site. Variant Fund has written publicly about its work on token-bound accounts, which indicates interest rather than an investment.
