About
Groupdesk builds the booking and payment layer for group travel and licenses it to tour operators, airlines and hotels under their own brand. Co-founder Alex Handa was running it when Janice Sousa, who had led business development at Merit Travel and sales at EF Educational Tours, joined as co-founder and CEO in July 2019. A month later she took the TravelTechTO stage and put the case plainly: the team had run tour operators and wholesale divisions themselves, kept hitting the same registration problem, and reckoned their former companies would have scaled faster had it been solved. Sousa has since moved on — she is a sales coach at Deloitte — and the product remains on the market.
Backers
No funding round confirmed against a primary announcement; BetaKit reported in July 2019 that the company was raising.
Quick answers
What does Groupdesk do?
It provides white-label software for booking and managing group travel — promotions, registrations, traveller communications and payments — for tour operators, airlines and hotels.
Who runs Groupdesk?
Alex Handa co-founded it; Janice Sousa joined as co-founder and CEO in July 2019 and has since moved on. Current leadership is not confirmed by a primary source.
What did Groupdesk say at TechTO?
On TravelTechTO's August 2019 panel Sousa argued the information gap between travel suppliers and travellers had closed, which changes what an intermediary is for: booking is as easy as it has ever been, but the choice is overwhelming, so curation is the job.
