About
Handy connected households to pre-screened cleaners and tradespeople at a fixed, upfront price, the same booking pattern Uber used for taxis and Airbnb for rooms. It was founded in 2012 in the Boston area by Oisin Hanrahan and Umang Dua, who left Harvard Business School to build it, and later moved to New York. ANGI Homeservices agreed to acquire the company in October 2018, for total consideration of about US$165.5M, and the brand has run inside Angi since. David Albert brought it to TechTO in November 2014, when the company was about two years old, to talk about marketplace liquidity — the unglamorous, unscalable work of manufacturing enough supply and demand at the same time in the same place to make a marketplace function.
Backers
Acquired by ANGI Homeservices in October 2018 and operated within Angi since. Its earlier venture investors are no longer the ownership story.
