About
thisopenspace connected people sitting on underused commercial and residential space with people who needed it for a few hours — pop-up retail, photo and film shoots, workshops and events. Yashar Nejati started it as a side project after entrepreneurs kept asking how he found rooms for pop-up cafés, and went full-time in mid-2015 with co-founder Adam Bent, launching the platform in January 2016. Early operations ran manually on Squarespace before custom product was built. The company raised seed funding and expanded beyond Vancouver into cities including Los Angeles, New York, Montreal and Ottawa, before Nejati sold it to Giggster; he wrote about the exit in March 2021.
