About

HealthCasa lets patients book registered health practitioners to come to them rather than travel to a clinic, spanning massage therapy, physiotherapy, chiropody and podiatry, orthotics, occupational therapy, dietetics, counselling and audiology, largely billed to private insurance. It serves the GTA, York, Durham, Peel, Halton and Barrie, with virtual dietitian service in four provinces. Dr. Karen Klein, a dentist trained in Johannesburg who came to Canada for an MBA at Rotman, co-founded it with Mike Gaspar after it took three weeks and many phone calls to arrange an in-home consultation for her toddler. The company began in the corporate market, closed for months during COVID-19, and rebuilt around consumers before adding HealthCasa At Work.

Quick answers

What does HealthCasa do?

It sends registered practitioners to patients at home, at the office or in hospital, across a range of allied health services, and bills largely to private insurance. It also runs a corporate wellness arm, HealthCasa At Work.

How did COVID-19 change the business?

It had started in the corporate market, offering appointments inside law and accounting firms. When offices closed in March 2020 the business had to shut for a couple of months and change quickly, which Klein described on stage as a pivot she had no appetite for but no alternative to.
