About
Homewise was built on the observation that a homebuyer who walks into their own bank gets exactly one option. The company takes a single online application — it advertises five minutes — and runs it across more than thirty banks, credit unions and private lenders, then presents each offer with the lender, the rate and the features rather than a headline number. Borrowers are assigned a human advisor, and the recommendation engine the company calls mortgage match scores clients against lender options. It is free to the buyer: lenders pay Homewise a share of the commission, reported in 2020 at 80 to 120 basis points on the mortgage principal. Jesse Abrams and Carlos Medeiros founded it in late 2018 and it operates from North York across Canada. Abrams demoed the company on the TechTO stage in March 2021 as part of the Intuit Prosperity Accelerator's first cohort, describing the shift the product represents as moving "from human opinion to data intelligence". A month earlier it had closed an oversubscribed $3 million seed round, on the back of tripled year-over-year revenue and pre-approvals up tenfold through the pandemic.
Backers
Clanton Capital led a $3M seed announced February 2021, joined by MaRS IAF, Epstein Enterprises and angels including Joe Canavan. Total raised was $3.8M at that point.
