About

Frederic Lalonde and Joost Ouwerkerk, both formerly of Expedia, started Hopper in Montreal in April 2007; the consumer app it is known for — flight price prediction first, then hotels and short-term rentals — came later. Capital One has been its largest backer, adding US$96 million in November 2022 and taking the total raised to roughly US$740 million. In 2021 Hopper launched HTS, a business-to-business division that licenses its AI, travel-commerce and fintech tools to partners including Capital One, Air Canada, Uber UK and Tripadvisor. The company keeps a large second office in Boston.

Backers

Capital One is the largest investor — US$170 million in 2021 and a further US$96 million in November 2022 — after earlier rounds involving OMERS and Atlas Venture. About US$740 million raised in total. The investor list is assembled from press reports, not from a company filing.
