About
Lokafy started from a complaint about how travel actually feels: queues, tourist traps, and the sense of being marketed to rather than shown around. Founder Kiran Samra built a marketplace matching visitors with residents who want to share their own city, paid per tour. It began in Toronto and expanded to Paris and New York, and now lists guides in cities worldwide, including cruise excursions. The company's own site reports more than 146,000 travellers connected and more than 19,000 Lokafyers. Samra, who has an MBA from Rotman, presented the case against conventional tourism at TravelTechTO in 2017.
