About
Bijan Vaez co-founded EventMobi in Toronto with his brother Bob and was its chief technology officer, bootstrapping the event-software company past 15,000 clients. He started Merchkit in 2022, joined by Rob Hayes as head of product (previously Voiceflow and Ada) and Vasil Damyanov as chief technology officer (previously ContentFly), working out of Vancouver and Toronto. The problem is catalogue data: retailers hold product information across scraped web pages, PIM and ERP systems, manuals and images, and it has to be classified, standardised and rewritten for each channel. Merchkit automates that, and now argues the stakes have changed — shoppers researching through large language models need richer attributes and context before a product gets recommended at all. Lowe's is a named customer, alongside enterprise contracts in furniture, appliances and apparel. The $2-million CAD pre-seed closed via SAFE in the fourth quarter of 2024, led by Afore Capital and Antler Canada.
Backers
Afore Capital and Antler Canada led the $2-million CAD pre-seed, with undisclosed strategic angels from retail and technology.
