About
Elsie Amoako founded Mommy Monitor in 2017 while a graduate student at the University of Toronto, after research on why Black women experience worse pregnancy outcomes in Canada. It began as an app and education service and grew into a virtual perinatal care centre, with maternal mentors — midwives, doulas and nurses — providing on-demand support. It was renamed Mino Care in summer 2023, after a Fon word meaning 'our mothers'. In November 2025 it opened an in-person clinic at North York General Hospital's Champagne site, and it has extended its work to Ghana through the University of Toronto's Africa Health Collaborative.
Backers
Funded rather than invested: The McConnell Foundation granted $450,000 for 2025–2028. Earlier support from accelerator and grant programmes is reported but not separately confirmed

It provides culturally safe, anti-racist perinatal care to African, Caribbean, Black and racialized women and families — doula support, mental health counselling, pelvic floor physiotherapy, lactation consulting and health navigation.

Yes. Elsie Amoako founded it as Mommy Monitor in 2017 and renamed it Mino Care in summer 2023.
Where does it deliver care?
Mostly virtually, plus an in-person clinic opened in November 2025 at North York General Hospital's Champagne site, running two Saturdays a month.
