About

OnCall Health launched as an on-demand app — download it, see a doctor — and changed course within months. Founder Nicholas Chepesiuk told HealthTO in June 2018 that virtual care worked better augmenting an existing clinician relationship than replacing it, and that fragmented provincial billing rules pushed the company toward insurers and employers rather than the public system. Qualifacts, backed by Warburg Pincus, acquired it on 1 November 2022.

Quick answers

What happened to OnCall Health?

Qualifacts, a Warburg Pincus-backed behavioural health software company, acquired it on 1 November 2022. Founder Nicholas Chepesiuk stayed on as VP of Virtual Care and Innovation.

What did OnCall Health do?

It gave clinics, insurers and health systems a configurable virtual-care platform — secure video appointments, texting, digital forms and assessments under their own brand. Mental health was its largest use case.

What did its founder learn building it?

Budget for legal and regulatory work early, be picky about first enterprise customers because they shape the product, take design to an extreme for clinicians and distressed patients, and staff human support generously — word of mouth among clinicians drove as many leads as marketing.
