Pillcheck

Pillcheck is GeneYouIn's Toronto pharmacogenetic service: a one-time DNA test that reports how a patient metabolises prescribed drugs, so clinicians can match medication to genetics rather than to trial and error. It is offered through employer benefit plans and insurers.

About

The premise is that the same prescription works differently in different bodies, and genetics explains a large part of the difference — a slow caffeine metaboliser learns it over twenty years of bad nights, and a patient on antidepressants learns it over months of switching drugs. Pillcheck reports the drug-gene interactions in days. Built by GeneYouIn, a Toronto personalized-medicine company, it covers mental health, pain management and cardiovascular prescribing, and has been distributed through Canadian insurers including Canada Life. Veronika Litinski, who leads the company, presented at TechTO's HealthTO in February 2018.
