About
Pine set out to do for home buying what Wealthsimple did for investing — an online mortgage process with the paperwork stripped out. It started as a digital broker and later became a lender in its own right. In 2023 it acquired technology from Toronto proptech Properly, which became the refreshed Pine Homes. By mid-2025 it had passed $1 billion in mortgages under administration, which co-founder Justin Herlick called the number the business needed to be self-sustaining. Herlick told the founding story on the TechTO Founder Journey stage in August 2023.
