About
Goldberg's third education company follows the same shape as the first two: take a process people already run on paper and make it produce data. An assessor builds a task-specific form, scores performance in real time on a mobile device, and the system generates the debrief immediately and rolls results up into analytics on skill gaps and training return. The company puts the administrative saving at about 65 percent against paper. Its customers are the places where a skill has to be observed rather than examined — fire departments and EMS services, healthcare and colleges, manufacturing and construction, maritime and transport, retail and hospitality — and it names Carnival Corporation, the Royal Canadian Navy, BC Ferries and Aims Community College among them. Goldberg left UBC computer science in 1997 to found WebCT, which reached 14 million students before Blackboard bought it, and founded Marine Learning Systems in 2010, out of which SkillGrader was spun.
