About
Skip connects diners, restaurants and couriers in Canadian cities, including many mid-sized markets the global platforms reached late or not at all — a consequence of starting on the prairies rather than in Toronto. Josh Simair founded it in Saskatoon in 2012 with several other Saskatchewan natives, including two of his brothers, and the company moved its head office to Winnipeg, where it became the city's largest tech employer. In December 2016 the British company Just Eat plc acquired it for roughly $110 million, and after Just Eat's 2020 merger with Takeaway.com it became the Canadian arm of Just Eat Takeaway.com. Its ownership is changing again: Prosus agreed to acquire Just Eat Takeaway in a deal valued at about €4.1 billion, or $6.2 billion Canadian. Paul Burns, formerly managing director of Twitter Canada, was appointed chief executive in December 2023.
