About
Founded in 2016 and first hosted at the Music Den incubator at Toronto's Ryerson University, Sodatone built an A&R tool that tracked signals such as fan loyalty and a track's viral potential to flag unsigned talent, and offered audience-reaction insights on releases by established artists. Warner Music Group announced its acquisition on 28 March 2018; the founders stayed on, reporting to WMG chief data officer Vinnie Freda. Co-founder Jerry Zhang pitched the company's hiring at the TechTO Open Mic in June 2018, calling it the music industry's first AI acquisition.
