About
Sprout Social was founded in Chicago in 2010 on the argument that social drives real business impact, and sells a platform for publishing, engagement, social listening and analytics. Its own site reports more than 1,400 employees, customers in over 100 countries and offices in Chicago, Dublin and Poland. Justyn Howard led the company through its 2019 Nasdaq listing and handed the CEO role to Ryan Barretto in October 2024; Barretto had joined in 2016 to run global sales and had been president. Barretto brought the company to the TechTO stage at SalesTO in September 2019, on a panel with Gong's Chris Orlob and LeanData's Erin Bush: at the time Sprout was generating about 9,000 free trials a month on an inbound model, had grown its sales and customer success organisation from under 50 people to roughly 300, and had turned a three-person customer-growth pilot started in 2017 into its most productive sales team.
Backers
Publicly traded on Nasdaq under SPT since 2019; venture-backed before the IPO, through a Series E.
Quick answers
What does Sprout Social do?
It sells a social media management platform — scheduling and publishing, inbox and engagement, social listening, and analytics — to brands and agencies. It is based in Chicago and listed on Nasdaq as SPT.
Who runs Sprout Social?
Ryan Barretto, who became CEO in October 2024, succeeding co-founder Justyn Howard. Barretto joined in 2016 to lead global sales and was president before the promotion; Sprout also named him interim principal financial officer in March 2026.
What was its TechTO appearance?
Barretto joined TechTO's SalesTO panel on how GTM teams win together in September 2019, alongside Chris Orlob of Gong and Erin Bush of LeanData. His argument was that product-led growth changes the sales org: buyers arrive already 65% through their evaluation, so training and process have to assume the customer has used the product.
