About

Pecherskiy and Shar came up with StackAdapt while working at WPP in Toronto, frustrated by the ad-buying platforms they had to use, and recruited Yang Han — then building real-time trading technology at Bloomberg — as the third co-founder. The company's own account puts the launch in 2014 in Toronto. The platform sells against the complexity of programmatic buying: exchanges, audience segments, bid strategies and reporting stacks that disagree with each other, collapsed into a single buying workflow, with machine learning doing the targeting. In February 2025 the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan invested US$235 million, a deal reported as preparation for an eventual public listing; Pecherskiy has since taken over as chief executive. StackAdapt demoed the product on TechTO's MarketingTO stage in October 2018, in a Demo of the Month slot presented by a StackAdapt employee identified in the archive only as Eli.

Backers

The Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan invested US$235 million in February 2025. The founders raised less than $5 million from three investors in the early years, per the Globe and Mail's account.
