About
Venture for Canada started as a single fellowship programme matching graduates with Canadian startups, and grew into several national programmes including internships and rural streams. Founder Scott Stirrett ran it for more than a decade, raising over $80 million and supporting more than 10,000 young people before stepping down as CEO in autumn 2025. He spoke at TechTO in June 2019 on values fit over culture fit — the hiring principle the organisation runs on.

Quick answers
What is Venture for Canada?
A national charity that places students and recent graduates into Canadian startups and small businesses, and trains them in entrepreneurial skills.
Who founded it?
Scott Stirrett, in 2013, at age 22. He led it for over a decade and stepped down as CEO in autumn 2025.
How does it hire?
On values fit rather than culture fit — Stirrett told the TechTO stage that shared hobbies are not the point, and the organisation runs biweekly meetings on a single value at a time.
