About

Version One Ventures invests at pre-seed and seed, typically US$500,000 to $750,000 per company, across Vancouver, San Francisco, Seattle and the Toronto-Waterloo corridor. Boris Wertz founded the firm in 2012 and raised an initial $18.7-million fund from outside investors that year; he now runs it with investing partner Angela Tran. In June 2026 the firm closed US$108 million across two vehicles — Fund V at $78 million for pre-seed and seed, and Opportunities Fund III at $30 million for follow-on investment in its strongest holdings — with a stated focus on AI infrastructure and applications, robotics and physical AI, deep tech, biology, and emerging ecosystems including India and Africa. Wertz appeared on TechTO's Founders & Funding in April 2020 alongside Mike Murchison and David Hariri of Ada, the Toronto support-automation company Version One backed, for the show's format of putting the founders and the investor who wrote the cheque on stage to tell the story of the raise from both sides.
