About
Your AI Department sells four things: hands-on AI education, an AI readiness audit and roadmap, embedded engineering teams, and a fractional AI officer for companies that need the seniority without the hire. Its pitch is execution rather than advice — pilot in thirty days, production in ninety.
Matei Olaru founded it after five years as chief executive of Lift & Co., the publicly traded Canadian cannabis media and data company, where he built the CannSell training programme. The published team is small and senior: Michael Greenberg, who spent ten years building AI products at Google, Meta and Samsung and holds six patents, and Tom Taubkin, a Waterloo maths graduate who led a fifty-plus engineering team and founded Float. The firm publishes its own research — a 2026 benchmark of 134 chief executives found 86% were not formally measuring the return on their AI spending.
Backers
No funding round is announced. It is a services firm rather than a venture-backed product company.
Quick answers
What does Your AI Department do?
It acts as the AI department a mid-market company does not have — training staff, auditing readiness, building a roadmap of the highest-return uses, then embedding engineers to ship the systems. It also offers a fractional AI officer for the leadership layer.
Who is behind it?
Matei Olaru, who ran Lift & Co. as chief executive from 2016 to 2020, founded it. The published team also names Michael Greenberg, ten years of AI product work at Google, Meta and Samsung and six patents, and Tom Taubkin, formerly of Coinbase AI and founder of Float.
Where is it based?
Its own site says "HQ in San Francisco. Distributed globally." Matei Olaru is in Toronto, which is where he took the TechTO stage in 2018 — for Lift & Co., not for this firm.
How fast do they claim to work?
Their stated cadence is a pilot inside thirty days and production inside ninety. Their own 2026 survey of 134 chief executives found 86% were not measuring AI return at all and 54% had had a project fail to deliver.
