About
ZEALS started in chat commerce: selling through messaging apps rather than a web form, on the argument that a conversation converts where a checkout page loses people. Its ZEALS AI Agent is still sold that way — "a fully performance-based conversion acquisition solution" that the customer pays for on results rather than seats — and by 2022 the company served more than 400 enterprises including Toyota dealerships, Shiseido and NTT Docomo.
The product line has since widened into what the company calls "Accelerating the Real-World Implementation of AI." Omakase AI is a conversational voice platform; Omakase AI Voice runs "voice AI agents that replicate brand-specific communication protocols"; Omakase AI Avatar builds human-like video interaction for AI interviews and consultations. In 2026 ZEALS announced D1, a compact humanoid robot with hardware, operating system and manipulation intelligence "built and shipping in Japan" — a substantial move beyond software.
The company was incorporated on 1 April 2014 as ZEALS Co., Ltd., with capital of ¥100 million, and is led by Representative Director & CEO Masahiro Shimizu. It works from Arco Tower in Meguro, Tokyo, with a US office in San Francisco, and holds ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification and a SOC 2 Type II report. In May 2022 it raised ¥5 billion — $27.2M in equity led by JIC Venture Growth Investments and $11.6M in debt — taking total funding to about $41.4M.
Backers
